Selecting the Right Piano Sheet Music for You
Piano sheet music is a very important part of learning to play piano. When you're first starting out with lessons, it's likely that your teacher will use very simple sheet music. After you learn to master the simplest of music, you will progress to more difficult pieces. It's likely that your teacher will run off copies of the sheet music you're working on so that you can practice at home. Eventually, you'll have the pleasure of choosing your very own music and playing what you like best.
One of the most common genres of music for piano players, both beginning and advanced, is classical. You'll find no shortage of classical sheet music for players of all skill levels. Beginners and those of moderate skill might enjoy such works as Fur Elise and Ave Maria. Also, many holiday songs are appropriate for beginning players as well. Jingle Bells and Good King Wencelas are holiday theme songs that many new piano players enjoy. Other favorites for those starting out include simple pieces like Mary Had a Little Lamb, Row, Row, Row Your Boat and Hot Cross Buns.
After you've mastered the easy songs, you can start working your way up in difficulty. More challenging classics include Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, Toreador from Carmen, and Autumn by Vivaldi. If you can play these songs, you might be ready to progress onto different styles of music. When choosing challenging sheet music, think about your favorite artists and types of music. If you like laid back pop, you might enjoy sheet music for songs by artists like Michelle Branch or Tori Amos. If you enjoy something edgier, you can try more progressive sheet music like classic rock favorites or even contemporary rock. Then, there's always country music as well! Even if your favorite songs aren't played on the piano, you can often find sheet music interpretations.
Piano sheet music is a very important part of playing piano and a rather personal choice. While you may not have much of a choice when you're first beginning to learn piano, the more skilled you become the more choice you will have. Whenever appropriate, choose sheet music that you truly enjoy playing and listening to.
