Features and Benefits of Various Piano Keyboard Choices

Anyone who wants to learn how to play piano will need to purchase one so they can practice at home. There are many different piano keyboard choices on the market today, so many that it can be hard to choose the right one. The first thing you'll need to determine is whether you want an acoustic piano or an electric one.

An acoustic piano is the most traditional type of piano and is available in a variety of sizes. The largest would be a concert grand, which as its name suggests is used in orchestras and concert halls. Some people decide on a baby grand, which is a scaled down variety of the grand piano. However, if you're on a budget and have limited space, an upright piano is probably your best choice. If you're just starting out, you may even want to buy used. Just make sure you choose a piano in good condition and understand the proper care and maintenance before making your decision.

Some people prefer electric pianos or keyboards over acoustic pianos. These days, electric pianos feature all the best benefits of an acoustic with lots of fun and useful extras. If you decide to go electric, choose a model with 88 hammer graded keys and foot pedal attachments. You'll be amazed at how similar a good electric piano and a classic acoustic piano can sound! If you live with people who may be disturbed by your piano practice, an electric piano is great because you can use headphones while playing so no one else can hear. Electric pianos also come with different sounds, which means you can switch over and enjoy playing a harpsichord or organ sound, for example. And many electric pianos come with MIDI capacity, which means you can record and transfer music to your computer for mixing, saving and sharing.

Both acoustic and electric pianos have their good and bad points. Choosing a piano keyboard is honestly a matter of personal preference. If you're taking lessons, ask your instructor for recommendations. You may want a piano similar to the one you're using at class. Or, browse through a music store and try out different types of pianos. With all the choices these days, you're sure to find the ideal keyboard to suit you!
