What You Should Know About Piano Chords
Piano chords are one of the most important aspects that you need to master when learning to play piano. After all, chords are basically what music is constructed from. Just like with guitar playing, there are many different chords used in piano playing. Learning what they are can take you a long way towards mastering the piano and confidently playing all different types of music. First, let's take a look at exactly what a chord is.
A chord is played when you press more than one key at one time to make a particular sound. There are chords in different notes. For example, there are C chords, D chords, G chords, and so many more. It may seem overwhelming to a beginner, but it's no harder to learn chords than it is to learn sheet music. As a matter of fact, some people find it much easier. What's more, many new piano students choose to take chord piano lessons. This means they focus on learning and playing with chords rather than the traditional reading and playing of sheet music.
There are many ways you can learn more about chords. One way is by taking lessons from a teacher who is willing to focus your classes around learning chords. There are also a wide variety of online courses as well as courses on video and DVD that can teach you this method of piano playing. Not only that, but you'll find lots of books and web resources that can help you study many different chords. The more you study, the easier it will become to learn. Not only is study important, but so is practice. Consistent, regular practice is probably the most important thing a student wanting to learn chord piano can do.
Another benefit to learning piano chords is that you will be able to read tabs, or tablature. Piano tabs are somewhat similar to those that guitar players use. Basically, a piano tab is instruction regarding a particular song written out in text as opposed to with sheet music. Once you get the hang of them, tabs are easy to read and write. They are also widely available on the web, easy to save, print and share. This is just one more great thing about being familiar with chords!
